Review HONDA Oem Rear Sub Frame Subframe fits CR80R 1991

The **Honda 50140-GS2-000ZD 1991 CR80R Rear Frame** is a meticulously engineered, high-performance component designed exclusively for Honda s legendary CR80R off-road motorcycle, a model celebrated for its precision, durability, and adaptability to rugged terrain. This rear frame assembly represents the backbone of the CR80R s structural integrity, combining lightweight yet robust materials to deliver an optimal balance between strength and maneuverability. Crafted with Honda s signature attention to detail, the frame features a compact yet rigid design, ensuring minimal flex under heavy loads while maintaining agility during sharp turns and aggressive off-road maneuvers. The frame s geometry is finely tuned to support the CR80R s aggressive riding position, with a low center of gravity and a well-positioned swingarm pivot that enhances stability and control, whether tackling steep climbs, technical descents, or high-speed straightaways. Constructed from high-grade steel, the frame is heat-treated and precision-machined to withstand the demands of extreme off-roading, including repeated impacts, rough landings, and prolonged exposure to harsh environments. Its seamless integration with the CR80R s suspension system including the rear shock absorber and swingarm ensures a harmonious transfer of power and traction, allowing riders to push the limits of their capabilities with confidence. Whether restoring a classic CR80R to its original glory or upgrading an existing build, this rear frame serves as a foundational element that elevates both performance and reliability. For enthusiasts seeking authenticity and uncompromising quality, the 1991 CR80R rear frame embodies the spirit of Honda s off-road engineering legacy, offering a perfect blend of heritage and modern durability.

### **Pros and Cons of Buying a 1991 Honda CR80R (Frame Number: 50140-GS2-000ZD, Rear Frame)**

#### **Pros**

1. **Classic Reliability** Honda s CR80R is known for its durable engine and transmission, built to last with proper maintenance. The 250cc single-cylinder engine is simple yet robust, making it easier to repair than more complex modern bikes.

2. **Off-Road Capability** The CR80R was designed for trail riding, with a lightweight frame, knobby tires, and a suspension setup that performs well on dirt roads and light trails. Its low seat height and nimble handling make it ideal for beginners or casual off-road enthusiasts.

3. **Low Cost of Ownership** Parts are widely available, and labor costs are minimal compared to modern bikes. Fuel efficiency is excellent for its class, and maintenance is straightforward.

4. **Simple Mechanics** The bike lacks complex electronics (no ABS, traction control, or advanced fuel injection), making it easier to diagnose and fix issues. The carbureted engine is forgiving and responsive to manual adjustments.

5. **Vintage Appeal** If you enjoy the classic look and feel of a 1990s trail bike, the CR80R offers a nostalgic riding experience. Its retro styling and minimalist design appeal to those who prefer simplicity over modern gadgets.

6. **Good for Beginners** The bike s lightweight frame (around 180 200 lbs) and manageable power make it suitable for new riders learning off-road skills. It s not as aggressive as a modern dual-sport, so it s less intimidating.

7. **Resale Value** While not high, well-maintained CR80Rs hold their value better than many older bikes due to their reputation for reliability. A clean example can still fetch a decent price in the used market.

8. **Minimalist Riding Experience** The lack of modern distractions (no digital dash, minimal weight) allows for a more focused, hands-on riding experience. Many riders appreciate the "back to basics" approach.

---

#### **Cons**

1. **Age and Wear** A 1991 model will have significant mileage, likely requiring attention to the engine, suspension, and drivetrain. Rust, worn bushings, and degraded components are common in older bikes.

2. **Limited Power and Speed** The 250cc engine produces only about 18 20 horsepower, making it slow compared to modern dual-sports or adventure bikes. It s not suitable for highway riding or fast trail sections.

3. **Poor Fuel Economy on Long Trips** While efficient on short rides, the bike s small fuel tank (around 1.5 2 gallons) means frequent refueling on longer adventures.

4. **Outdated Safety Features** No ABS, minimal lighting, and no modern ergonomics (e.g., poor wind protection, uncomfortable seat) make it less safe and comfortable than contemporary bikes.

5. **Maintenance Requirements** Regular upkeep is necessary to keep the bike running smoothly. Points, carburetor tuning, and chain maintenance are critical but time-consuming without mechanical experience.

6. **Limited Aftermarket Support** While parts exist, modern upgrades (e.g., suspension, brakes, or exhaust) are harder to find compared to newer Honda models. Customization options are limited.

7. **Comfort for Long Rides** The rigid seat, lack of wind protection, and basic ergonomics make it uncomfortable for extended touring. It s best suited for short, casual rides rather than long-distance adventures.

8. **Potential Hidden Issues** A used bike of this age may have undocumented problems, such as:

- **Engine wear** (piston rings, valves, or camshaft issues).

- **Suspension degradation** (shock seals, springs, or fork wear).

- **Drivetrain wear** (chain stretch, sprocket damage, or clutch slippage).

- **Electrical gremlins** (ignition, lights, or starter problems).

9. **No Modern Conveniences** No Bluetooth, USB ports, or digital displays. Navigation and communication rely on old-school methods (maps, CB radios, or cell phones with poor coverage).

10. **Environmental and Legal Concerns** Some areas have restrictions on older bikes, particularly if they lack modern emissions compliance (though the CR80R was likely sold as a "trail-only" bike, not street-legal in all regions).

---

### **Conclusion**

The 1991 Honda CR80R is a **great choice for someone who wants a simple, reliable, and affordable off-road bike** especially if you prioritize nostalgia, ease of maintenance, and a no-frills riding experience. It s ideal for:

- **Beginner riders** learning trail skills.

- **Casual riders** who enjoy short, fun rides on dirt roads or light trails.

- **Mechanically inclined owners** who appreciate working on their own bike.

- **Collectors or enthusiasts** who value vintage motorcycles.

However, it is **not suitable** for:

- **Highway riding** (too slow, no wind protection).

- **Long-distance touring** (uncomfortable, limited range).

- **Aggressive off-roading** (suspension and power are limited).

- **Riders who want modern safety features** (ABS, better brakes, electronics).

---

### **Recommendation**

**Buy the CR80R if:**

- You ve **inspected it thoroughly** (or had a mechanic check it) and are confident in its condition.

- You re **prepared for maintenance** and don t mind basic repairs.

- You **enjoy the simplicity** of an old-school trail bike and don t need modern conveniences.

- You re **riding it for fun, not performance** it s a character bike, not a high-performance machine.

**Avoid the CR80R if:**

- You **need a bike for daily commuting or highway use**.

- You **plan to ride long distances** without frequent stops.

- You **lack mechanical skills** or time to maintain it properly.

- You **prioritize modern safety and comfort** over vintage charm.

**Alternative Considerations:**

- If you want a **more modern but still affordable** off-road bike, look at a **used Honda CRF250L (2007 )** or **Yamaha WR250R** they offer better power, suspension, and safety features.

- If you re **set on a vintage bike**, consider a **Honda XL600V (Trail 600)** or **Kawasaki KLR650** for a more capable and comfortable option.

**Final Verdict:** The 1991 CR80R is a **fun, low-cost, and reliable trail bike** for the right rider but it s not a modern replacement for anything. If you love its simplicity and are willing to put in the effort, it s a fantastic purchase. Otherwise, a slightly newer dual-sport may be a better long-term investment.
